Trying new things… one bite at a time

Updated: Aug 23

We had one dinner in NYC this week… and wow, did we make it count.

Our boys took us to Soothr (yes, spelled S-O-O-T-H-R), a Thai spot in the East Village they’ve all raved about. It’s always fun to try a new restaurant, but even more fun when your kids are the ones showing you their favorite place. 😊

Turns out it’s a Michelin-starred restaurant… and now we know why.

Everything we ordered was amazing.

One standout? A pork salad that tasted like a twist on papaya salad… unexpected and so good.

We also had a bit of a curveball when we saw dumplings with chestnuts on the menu. One of our sons has a tree nut allergy, so of course we paused.

Cue the food allergy question:

Are chestnuts tree nuts? (Yes.)

Are water chestnuts tree nuts? (Nope.)

Luckily, the server was allergy-aware and reassured us it was water chestnuts, not actual nuts. We still double-checked with Google just to be sure ✅

But here’s the coolest part…

Seeing our love of food reflected in our kids.

They were all open to trying bold, spicy flavors… and enjoyed it just as much as we did. That shared experience, all of us around the table, tasting new dishes and loving it, felt really special.

A quick tip if you go: Soothr doesn’t take reservations, so be prepared to wait.

Our boys actually went early to grab a table since it was only a block from our hotel. (Another parenting win 😂)

Highly recommend if you’re in NYC and want something flavorful, unique, and surprisingly not too pricey. 💜
