Sometimes Plan B turns out even better than Plan A.

While visiting Key West, we were looking for a great breakfast spot. Blue Heaven came highly recommended, but unfortunately, it was closed. So we ended up at Moondog Café & Bakery, a restaurant recognized by the Michelin Guide. What a find!

We sat outside on the lovely patio, waited just a few minutes for our table, and enjoyed a really delicious breakfast.

I ordered the Smoked Trout Benedict, an interesting twist on traditional eggs Benedict with smoked trout, poached eggs, and capers. I asked for the hollandaise on the side so I could control how much I used. Absolutely delicious!

Scott ordered Huevos Rancheros, a Mexican breakfast dish with eggs, tortillas, black beans, salsa, and avocado. He loved it!

And then there was the bakery. SO many beautiful, freshly baked treats! Scott tried their Bread Pudding Cheesecake, which I can only describe as what would happen if cheesecake and bread pudding had a baby. YUM!

The outdoor atmosphere was charming, the waitstaff was genuinely friendly, and the whole experience was wonderful.

And as a little bonus, they sold the cutest, trendy trucker hats! Of course, I bought one and started getting compliments on it right away!

If you’re visiting Key West, I definitely recommend putting Moondog on your breakfast list. Great food, a lovely atmosphere, and apparently, a little unexpected shopping, too!
