The Butter on My Steak at the Dave Asprey Biohacking Conference

At the Dave Asprey Biohacking Conference, even lunch felt like part of the lesson. They served us grass-fed steak with Brussels sprouts and a big pat of butter on top. Very Dave Asprey. Very biohacking conference.
From the stage, he talked more than once about how much high-quality protein he had to order to feed everyone at the conference. He was clearly proud of it. He even mentioned taking discounted pre-orders for next year so he could plan ahead and make sure he had the right amount of protein. I actually thought the steak was pretty good, and I appreciated how much thought went into the quality of it.
And the butter was not random.
I’m reading Dave Asprey’s book Game Changers right now, and one of the things he talks about is how he came to create Bulletproof Coffee. Most people know the mold-free coffee part of the story, which is interesting on its own. But the butter part is just as much a part of his philosophy.
His idea is that adding grass-fed butter or ghee, along with MCT oil, gives the body fat for steady energy, helps with fullness, and supports focus without the blood sugar spike you might get from a typical sweet breakfast or coffee drink. I’m not saying I’m ready to put that much butter on my steak every day, but I did appreciate the bigger message.
Protein quality matters. Food quality matters. And sometimes eating well means being open to learning why someone does things a little differently than you do.
