For my birthday this year, I gave myself something different: a soul regression session with guided hypnosis.

A friend recommended Journey of Souls by Michael Newton and introduced me to Elizabeth, the woman who guided my session. After reading the book, I wanted to explore this for myself.

Spiritual work has always intrigued me. I meditate regularly, but I had never been hypnotized. I was curious and a little nervous, with plenty of preconceived notions about what it would feel like.

On her website, Elizabeth talks about exploring the deeper meaning in our relationships, struggles, and gifts. People come to this work wanting to understand patterns they keep repeating, experiences that have shaped them, or their sense of purpose.

Before our session, Elizabeth asked me to send her my own questions, anything I wanted to ask my “higher self.” These were things I wanted to understand or find answers to in my own life.

What surprised me most was that she wasn’t giving me the answers. She guided me into a deeply relaxed state and asked questions, but I was the one responding. She wasn’t passing judgment or interpreting what I said.

I expected being hypnotized to feel different somehow. Mostly, I felt very relaxed. It wasn’t scary, and it was different from what I had imagined.

The session lasted 3½ hours, and I’m still processing some of what came up. Thought-provoking is the best way to describe it. Some of the concepts we explored will take time to sort through.

For now, I’m glad I gave myself the experience. I’m interested in reading more and seeing what stays with me.
