Growing Pains of an Empty Nest

Updated: Aug 21

ree

This past week brought one of those whoa, life is different now moments.

The dinner above was on the day that we were in New York City dropping off our youngest for his summer internship… and just like that, all three of our boys are officially living in the city this summer.

We went out to dinner, the five of us, and after the meal, something hit me.

Everyone went in a different direction.

Spencer walked west, heading off to grab a Citi Bike.

Tyler walked north.

Jake went south.

Scott and I went back to a hotel.

We weren’t going to the same place to sleep.

It felt strange.

A little bittersweet.

A lot like growth.

This is a new season.

One that is stretching us.

Rewriting routines.

Redefining what it means to be a family spread out but still deeply connected.

Empty nesting isn’t one single moment.

It’s a series of shifts… each one nudging you to grow, let go, and lean into what is next.

And that is exactly what we are doing 💜
