Parenting kids in their 20s is hard in a way no one really prepares you for.
One of my kids is facing some really big life challenges right now. And if I’m being honest, I feel like I’m getting it wrong. On the phone especially. We start talking about what’s going on, and by the end of the conversation I know he feels grilled… even though my intention is just to help.
I’m constantly trying to figure out the right cadence.
How often do I check in?
How much do I ask?
How deep do we go?
How do I stay curious without sounding judgmental… supportive without smothering… present without pushing?
It’s a delicate balance. And some days it feels like there is no right way. Just a lot of internal conversations, a lot of restraint, and a lot of love behind every word I choose… and the ones I don’t.
