What’s Up With These Leg Cramps?!

This week, I had two nights where I was jolted out of a dead sleep with terrible leg cramps. I’m talking sharp, sudden spasms in my calves that had me jumping out of bed like someone hit a nerve.
The first night, I figured maybe I moved funny that day. But when it happened again the next night, I knew something was up.
So I turned to Dr. Google. 🤓
And guess what I learned? Leg cramps can be related to perimenopause. As estrogen levels decline, it impacts how our muscles function and can throw off our electrolyte balance — including magnesium.
Here’s the interesting part: these cramps happened while I was traveling… and I didn’t bring my vitamins. I normally take magnesium daily, but skipped it for a few days.
And yep — there’s a science-backed connection. As estrogen dips, your body may not absorb magnesium as efficiently. That drop in magnesium can lead to things like:
• Muscle cramps
• Sleep disruptions
• Mood swings
• Restless legs
So now I’m thinking… this wasn’t just bad luck. It might’ve been my body waving a big flag that said “Hey! Where’s my magnesium?” 😅
👉 Have you ever had this happen? Did you know this could be tied to menopause and magnesium?
Midlife is full of surprises… but at least we can figure them out together. 💜
