Making the Most of Hotel and Away-From-Home Gyms

ree

One of the challenges of being on the road is figuring out how to keep moving. Over the past few weeks, between our trip to Europe and now our rental at the Jersey Shore, Scott and I have made it a point to find gyms wherever we are.

Sometimes it’s the little hotel gym with a few dumbbells and a treadmill. Sometimes it’s a nearby local gym that offers a day pass. What I’ve learned is that the space doesn’t have to be perfect to get in a solid workout.

Here’s my confession: I often feel intimidated when I walk into a gym that isn’t part of a class or my usual routine. I never know where to start. What’s helped me is as simple as Googling a 30-minute workout video that uses weights right there on the spot. I’ll pull one up, hit play, and just follow along.

It’s amazing how effective that has been. In fact, I’m sore right now from a video I did three days ago. It didn’t feel too hard at the time, but it clearly worked muscles I hadn’t used in a while.

If you find yourself in a hotel gym or an unfamiliar space and don’t know what to do, just grab your phone and pull up a video. It’s a great way to stay consistent, adds a little accountability, and keeps things interesting while still giving you a full-body workout.

Moving well doesn’t have to mean a fancy class or a big gym. It just means staying active wherever you are.
