Conquering the Amalfi Steps: A Family Adventure of Pride and Perseverance

We are in Italy right now and have been doing a whole lot of walking this trip, but not just walking… climbing! Our place in Amalfi had over 214 vertical steps (yes, I counted), and that didn’t include the flat stretches in between. It was about a 15–20 minute trek each way to get into town, and let me tell you… it was no joke.
Even my kids were out of breath on the way up.
But this is one of those moments where I felt really proud. Because being able to keep up and do this kind of travel is a gift. All the workouts, the walks, the strength training, it’s paying off in real life. I was basically on the Stairmaster just living my life in Amalfi.
Positano has plenty of steps too, but where we’re staying now isn’t quite as high up… still steep, still lots of movement, but not Amalfi steep.
I can’t help but notice how fit the locals are… older people especially. They don’t have a choice… they walk these hills every single day. That’s longevity in action.
The photo above is a shot of the steps right outside our Airbnb in Positano, and below is a shot of me and my boys coming down from our place in Amalfi. Up and down, up and down… I AM MOVING!
