Why Most People Regain Weight… And the Habit Shift That Changes Everything

Red script text on a white background reads "Stop Challenge Choose," conveying a motivational message.

Stop. Challenge. Choose.

The more health coaching clients I talk to… the more I see this.

We make weight loss a “thing.”

Something that has to happen fast… right now… with extreme effort.

And then what?

Most people go right back to the same habits that got them there.

That cycle… I’ve watched it over and over again.

Understanding why people regain weight comes down to one thing:

without real habit change, the same patterns will always pull you back, regardless of how the weight came off.

That’s why this concept from Dr. Wayne Anderson, co-founder of the health program I coach, has stuck with me.

Stop. Challenge. Choose.

It sounds simple… but it’s everything.

But what this really is…

is waking up and becoming conscious of the things you do… and don’t do.

So much of our life runs on autopilot.

Stop

Pause before the automatic choice.

Challenge

Is this aligned with who I want to be… or just what I’ve always done?

Choose

Make the next decision… not perfect… just better.

This isn’t about being perfect.

It’s about learning how to think differently… in real time.

And over time… those small choices become your habits.

This is also where meditation has played such a big role for me.

Because meditation helps you notice.

It creates space between what you feel… and what you do.

And that space?

That’s where your power is.

That’s where you get to choose.

I didn’t always live this way.

It took me a long time to understand that this isn’t about a quick fix…

it’s about building a way of living that actually lasts.

Now… 8 years into my health journey…

“Stop. Challenge. Choose.” isn’t something I try to do.

It’s just part of who I am.

It’s a filter I run things through… without even realizing it.

And that’s what aging well looks like to me.

Not chasing fast results…

but becoming someone who knows how to choose better… again and again
