Exploring the Jersey Shore

Updated: Aug 21

Last weekend Scott and I explored the Jersey Shore, visiting towns from Atlantic Highlands to Point Pleasant Beach. We intentionally dined in different towns to experience each area’s unique vibe.

Monmouth Beach: Beach Tavern

Our eating adventure kicked off with lunch at Beach Tavern in Monmouth Beach. The setting is gorgeous. It is right on the river in a marina, with a relaxed and welcoming vibe. I went for the lobster roll (not the healthiest choice, but so good) and swapped the fries for a side salad to keep things a little more balanced.

After I ordered, I spotted a shrimp ceviche on someone else’s table that I definitely plan to try next time. The service was memorably good. One of the bartenders told me he noticed I was craning my neck to watch the game and changed the TV in front of me so I didn’t have to twist around. Bonus: we happened to be there when Ovi scored his history-making goal!

We headed to Red Bank for dinner at Saffron Modern Indian Dining. We chose this spot knowing we’d indulge a bit more. The dishes were flavorful, but we found it challenging to find vegetable options that weren’t fried.

Long Branch: Turning Point

The following morning, we picked up breakfast from Turning Point in Long Branch. Located near the iconic Pier Village, this daytime restaurant offers unique breakfast, brunch, and lunch options. The staff was friendly and accommodating, happily swapping out potatoes for fresh fruit with my omelet. I’ve heard that during peak season there’s often a line out the door, but on this rainy April day, it was quiet and relaxed.

Spring Lake: Sun & Waves

Our final restaurant stop was lunch at Sun & Waves in Spring Lake. I ordered a large, fresh salad that was so generous I saved half for later. The emphasis on fresh ingredients was evident, making it a spot I’d recommend to anyone in the area.

Exploring these towns and their dining scenes gave us a genuine feel for the Jersey Shore’s diverse communities. Each place had its unique charm, and we’re looking forward to going back.
